Thank you! That is a wonderfully clear explanation and comparison of the two types of stones. I've never heard anyone explain it before.

Your account also explains Hank Knight's observation that abrading the surface only has a temporary effect--the dense novaculite does not shed particles in use in the first place, so as soon as the abraded edges get worried down in use, you're back to where you were.
