Subject:
Metal stain in logs question

Barry Irby
I have a wind fall walnut tree on the family farm. Asked a guy with a bandmill to get it and saw it for me. He does not want to get the but cut for fear there is fencing in it.

I would like to have the butt cut into leg stock and see if I can get it rift sawn to boot.

So, if you cut a log and the end of it is stained, is the metal above the cut or below or can you tell?
