Subject:
Another question on chair tenons???

Barry Irby
I have tapered my holes in the seats and matched the tenons to them on the lathe.

The question is about the slot for the tenon and the wedge. I am assuming you cut the slot across the growth rings (perpendicular) in an effort not to split the turning. ???

What do you use to cut the slot? I am thinking of the band saw. The legs are square.

Tell me about the wedges. Do you use only one or do you cross them. Harder than the tenon or the same wood or softer?
