Subject:
How to distinguish White Qak from Red Oak

ron kanter
This is not meant as a joke, but if you feel compelled I can take it.

I have a couple dozen pieces of thin (1/4" to 1/2") white and read oak that has been sitting around for a couple of years. In most cases it is easy to identify one from the other.
But is some instances the color seems somewhere inbetween.
Is there other characteristics that would help me be more accurate than what I might guess by eye?
