Subject:
OT Anybody know anything about solar time telling?

Barry Irby
Sort of a sundial question.

I have an east facing window. This morning I noticed the sun shines in and lights up a wall. As the sun moves across the wall it passes a corner and creates a sharp bright line on the floor for a second or two and proceeds to get wider.

My question is could you use this to tell time? Would the shaft of sunshine pass that corner every morning at exactly the same time or would it change day by day and seasonally?

(I could get up every morning and check it, but I am retired and am no longer on a morning schedule. I'm sure some of you understand.)
