Veneer Issue

CJ in MPLS
I am veneering some 1/4" MDF panels using Better Bond X-Press™ Veneer Glue. I don't have a vacuum bag and so am clamping the hell out of these panels. Apparently I have too thin/too thick adhesive and/or inadequate clamping as some of the thin veneer has a few areas of air bubbles. Other than 1) injecting glue into the air bubbles and re-clamping or 2) stripping the veneer and starting over, do you have any recommendations for remediation of air bubbles under veneer.

One other option would be a bastardization of hammer veneering where a thin, hot hide glue is worked into the surface before clamping.

Thoughts?
