Subject:
do I need shoulders on my workbench tenons

Cameron
I've got all the parts for my split-top workbench glued up/dimensioned and will be starting on the M & Ts today. My legs ended up 4.5" x 6", made of 3 pieces of reclaimed oak. My plan is to make ~1.5" thick straight tenons on my tablesaw and cut through mortises through the 4.5" ash top. I was not planing on making end shoulders, figuring that the scale of these M&Ts doesn't necessitate them... Does this seem correct or should I use shoulders for racking? Also I thought about trying a wedged tenon but having never done one before I thought I'd leave that for another project unless it would make a big difference.

Thanks for any suggestions
