Subject:
Prefinish Panels in Kitchen Cabinet Doors

howgor
I am doing new kitchen cabinet doors that will be painted. Maple frames and mdf or plywood flat panel. I've been told to put one coat of finish on the panel before assembling to minimize the effect of frame shrinkage. Here's where I would appreciate some procedure guidance. When the frames are assembled, they will need to be sanded at the joints. The panel already has one coat of finish and the frames have none so the finish schedule is off? Do I mask the panel and put one coat of finish on the frame so they are at the same starting point? How do you sand the frames, get excess glue out without messing up the panel? Thanks I know many of you have done this so I appreciate the guidance.
