![]() ![]() ROCKING DONATION This hobbyist woodworker is helping others through his work. SHOP OWNER: Bernie Simmons LOCATION: Birmingham, AL This cradle, #15 in my series, signed and dated, features scrollwork with a double bevel marquetry eagle on each end. It was a donation to the Auburn University Nursing Program supporting scholarships. Since their football team is the Auburn Tigers, the cradle is made from tiger wood (congalvo alves). Also, it’s customary before each home game that Nova, a golden eagle, flies free in the stadium. ![]() The cradle was auctioned off to raise scholarship money for the nursing program during their annual Blue Jean Ball at ex-coach Pat Dye's ranch, and he signed it as well. Much to the delight of the nursing program, it sold for $5,000. Afterward I had several people come up to me to ask about doing some cradles on commission, but since I am mostly a hobbyist and still have several lined up to do, I would not take any orders. ![]() The cradle was auctioned off to raise scholarship money for the nursing program during their annual Blue Jean Ball at ex-coach Pat Dye's ranch, and he signed it as well. I still have two additional orders to fill, which is the most I will take at one time because I only build three to four per year. . . .
