Ended ***Snakewood log

3 June 2026 at 18:56
This is the last of my snakewood. Endgrain checking is next to none. I probably treated the ends with CA glue 5 or 10 years ago. The size of this log is about 12 1/2 inches long and the oblong sizing is 4 to 5 inches overall see the pics for more clarification. The weight of this log is 9 lbs. 6 oz. this piece has been wrapped with stretch wrap as well as CA glue where needed this piece is a beauty. $200 plus insurance in shipping. I have had very good success with the pieces that came from...

3x3x12 African Blackwood

24 May 2026 at 21:59
I got this 3 x 3 x 12 piece of African black wood somewhere between 12 and 15 years ago. The actual sizes are more like 3 1/8 of an inch by 3 1/8 of an inch by 12 1/2 inch. The weight is 6 pounds. $150 plus shipping and insurance. There is no sign of checking that I can see on this, but the ends were lightly waxed before shipping from Belforest. It’s in the actual shipping packing provided by Bell Forest the little bit of sap wood probably would go away after trimming to a true 3 inch size...

Walnut bowl with mineral stain.

27 February 2026 at 22:38
Back in 2013 I helped my BIL take down a walnut tree outside my sisters kitchen window. Pretty good sized tree, this piece being at center of 3 cores. So fast forward when I remember us finding about a one inch piece of scissors tip imbedded in the blank by the telltale staining which is now the highlight of the piece. I still need to reverse and remove the tenon and I’m thinking about ordering some tung oil after seeing redwood piece by @Alancw . My BIL just recently...

An olive colored ironwood, mystery wood or ??!

18 February 2026 at 19:51
@Friedrich9 , @Big Ry , @daniscool , @Mr. Peet
Ok guys, I’m going out on a limb even using term ironwood, but it has a density of about 69.84 pcf, not a floater. I sanded both sides of oxidation and sanded ends thru grits to 600. The end grain shots are 1-1/8” across. I don’t have microscope but using 10x pores seem tight and uniform. I don’t have much sense of smell but my wife likened the fresh cut as sweet and...
