So I got a Stanley type 11 no. 5 to strip an old reclaimed wood down table back to raw pine to refinish it. I was planning on using Rubio Monocoat because I've liked it in the past, but it seems like a damn shame to be sanding the glassy smooth finish the planer has given me.
Any technique suggestions to open the pores on the wood for finish without having to sand it a ton? I've got a random orbit palm sander here but I'm worried about scuffing up the wood a bunch.
I'll hand sand if I have to, but I got the plane specifically to avoid having to do a bunch of that
