I like what the tea/NH3OH did.
This may be off topic for you, but this is a good example of why I don't use oils on maple any more. A brushing lacquer like Deft Clear Wood Finish would have maintained a much higher contrast ratio. That would be my preference. Here, the oil reduced the contrast significantly.
But I still like the effect -- the fuming over tea tannins worked.
