I have a pair of 3 Ah batteries and a pair of 4Ah batteries, and a decent collection of Makita tools ( Makita only because once I started with the batteries and charger , I have to stay with one brand) Curiously only the 3Ah batteries work with my T50 stapler. We have run into similar situations at work where an older tool will not accept a newer bigger battery. I have never found a new tool that won't accept an older smaller battery. I would take the tool with you when you go out looking for new batteries.
