Friends -
I stumbled across a Langdon 1306C Miter Box a week or so and I've been cleaning it up and learning my way around its parts since I brought it home. It didn't need too much more work than a good cleaning and I am about ready to put it to use. Everything works fine but it seems to me that the saw guide that slides up and down inside the saw posts could (should?) slide a bit smoother.
Any suggestions? There are two options that cross my mind (with things that I already have): (1) a very light coat of 3-in-1 machine oil rubbed on the saw guides, and (2) lightly spraying some white lithium grease on the saw post. For option #1 I'm a bit concerned about the oil attracting saw dust. Is this worth worrying about? Are there any downsides to the white lithium grease. Are there better options than one of these two?
Oh, one more question: do you think I should add any lubrication inside the top part of the saw guides where the spine of the backsaw rests as it goes back and forth?
If it's not already clear, I don't know much about lubricants.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Thank you!
Dave
