I decided to make a mallet with cross-axis laminations just for kicks. But there is another reason: years ago when I was in some ruins in Sicily the guide explained that some structures survived many earthquakes because the ancient builders put layers of lead between the stones. So I figured the layers absorbed vibration and why not try it for a mallet handle
