I went ahead an just finished one anyway, and here's why: I was in Sicily years ago at a Greek ruin. The guide told us that some of the temples survived all the earthquakes to some extent because they were constructed with lead sheets between the stones. So I figured that the laminations must have absorbed some of the vibrations, so why not try it for a mallet handle.
