Bill Tindall, E.Tn.
My experience matches yours in making this joint, many times over for 3 tables that the client would like to use this year not next. What rasp do you prefer for fine tuning.
Till you voiced this fact I had not realized why I hate shoulder planes. The center of gravity it too high for good control given their narrow base. That and there is no good way to hold them to overcome this limitation. I need to study the plane and see why they are made so tall. I have never trimmed a shoulder with mine, just cheeks and I hate it every time I pick it up.
