David has certainly refined the process to a very refined finish. His hardening method is very accessible to the bobbyist. If you have the desire to cut, grind and file O1 bar stock, then plane irons, chisels, knives, etc. are just around the corner.

I've a small set he made from vintage files with apple handles. They're earlier versions of his efforts, but they don't disappoint.

 

He commented that 26c3 steel better matched the performance of his Ward & Payne reference chisels. I want to get some of that stock and make my own chisels.
