I use IPhoto in combination with Preview for everything. Check out the Help sections on both. I do all cropping and adjustments necessary in IPhoto, then export to Desktop and open it in Preview for further sizing, depending on what I need to do with the photo. There is a lot of capability with IPhoto I've not even touched yet. Read, read, read!
