For over 10 years I have been ignoring the warnings about damaging my CDs and DVDs with Sharpie Ultra Fine Point Permanent Marker pens and have yet to see a failure due corruption of the disk by the pen. I have also used the Sharpie markers that are meant for use on CDs but I have found that they dry out rather quickly. I tried Lightscribe labeling for a while but it is a PIA.

I have way too many gigabytes of photos and videos to save on CD/DVD anyway - beside having several copies on hard drives at home I have hard drives that I use to keep backups in my safety deposit box.

I don't trust this "cloud" thing - I think those servers could go "Kodak" anytime too.
