Can I assume that you saw the photo and explanation of my particular setup in another venue?

But you're right... the technique I used was not available when I had my NYC commercial photography studio.

I would have been tempted to do it via photocomposition (pin registration darkroom technique using overlay masks), especially if the "spot" had to be of a very controlled shape.
