..film and front standard including lens could not be too extreme due to lens coverage as you state. I believe I recall that the optimum was maxed out at about 12 degrees, and there was little more to be gained by an extreme displacement of the front standard. Any skilled view camera user learned the trick, especially useful in architectural photography. Today you could just buy a LensBaby for fun!
