I like the first photo in that the shadow shows the negative space, but the shadow would have to be sharper, and the color temperature seems off.

The second photo shows the piece real well, but you are loosing the "holder" (lack of a better term) on the bottom right, a standard problem with white on white.

Look at what Butch Smuts does with his negative space. Personally, I think that part needs to be celebrated.
