The photots were taken with natural light coming through a window from the left on an overcast morning.

I think sanding the bottom of the plastic cup should diffuse the LED's light. A couple of piece of vellum would diffuse it even more.

I'm going to try a few shots outdoors with full sunlight around noon and see if I can get the background whiter.
