..statement that you were going to use your flash meter, rather than saying an ambient/incident light meter. Since camera meters are reflected light meters I would (and do!) rely more on an incident light reading, using the white dome on your flash/ambient/reflected/incident meter, and test both camera and handheld meters under standard settings to check for calibration match, but don't mess with actual calibrations unless you really know what you're doing. A good handheld meter will eliminate many of the variables that a camera meter induces, such as changing lenses(different fields of view), false readings influenced by bright or dark subject matter averaged in the scene, etc.
