Thanks for the kind words about the bowl. That bowl, BTW, is tiny, only 4" in diameter. I was splitting firewood from the tree that came down when I noticed the figure in the split so I saved pieces to turn.
I asked my friend Paul Menchhofer, a well know potter who lives close by (who also spends a lot of time in Asheville) said he has known Akira Satake for years and I'll bet he's heard him play. You are right, Akira's web gallery is impressive! The style of some pieces look familiar - I'll bet I've seen his work in Asheville while wandering around the galleries.
BTW, my friend Paul is known for making the largest raku pottery in the world.
