Reminiscent of my first time I tried turning. Bought a 15" Sears Craftsman lathe and first thing I put about a 35lb hunk of wood on it. I hit the start button stuck the tool in and Bam, broke the tool and the the tool rest and the piece went over my left shoulder (just missing my head) 33 feet to the other end of the shop. Immediately called my friend and said we have to join that new woodturnig club that just started. That was 19+ years ago. Amazing how fast a spin starts on a lathe that has the speed dial turned all the way up.
