It probably should have evoked a Japanese garden feeling. Unfortunately, like many of my fellow countrymen, I have a hard time distinguishing one Asian architectural form from another.

Having read your comments in the original post, I knew it was inspired by Japanese architectural forms. Problem is, I have a hard time picturing a monastery on the top of some mountain in Japan. But, as a faithful reader of Marvel comic books in my youth, I know Tibet's mountains are littered with such things.
