+1 on Dick’s thoughts.

As soon as you feel the tool vibrate you need to stop and pick up the cut before the vibration.

Generally the tool is getting dull and I am pushing harder on the rubbing bevel to compensate. If you continue the cut you rub the bevel on the bumpy surface forcing you to make a cut with even bigger bumps.

Any play in the live center can give you the same problem. I have been tempted to try a dead center.
