The screw chuck would work well.

Another approach would be to make some disks about an inch thick, drill a hole in them and Install a dowel Maybe half or 3/4" into them, and protruding about an in inch or the thickness of the drawer front. Then You can chuck the dowel into a four jaw chuck with pin jaws or a three jaw Jacobs chuck If you have one for your lathe.

To install them you drill a hole in the drawer front and glue them in. You can add a diagonal pin for extra security.
