Turning

Subject:
Keeping the flame

John K Jordan
Nice job. I'm tempted to make shallow platters from crotch wood to keep from cutting away the flame.

Lots of times I see a crotch cut right down the center to make two pieces. What I've done instead is cut a little to one side of the middle, leaving only one piece but giving room to turn down and expose the optimum flame rather than worry about cutting too much away. I have a few like this on the shelves, dried without cracking.
