Subject:
Tool rest locking handle question

Barry Irby
I have a 10+ year old Nova DVR. the handle on the tool rest post is essentially horizontal when it's locked. It appears to be basically a bolt that press against the side of the post. I think I would like it better if the handle were vertical.

So, If I grind off about a quarter of a thread pitch, it should be about vertical. Right? Now, is that a good thing to do? Do any of you prefer a particular position for the locking handle? Is the end hardened? Would there be damage from grinding it off?
