Turning

I'm working at carving a Silver Maple bowl,

and have been lightly spraying it to keep it moist until I'm ready to put it in a paper bag to start the drying process. However, a few hours ago I needed to stop to go out to eat, and run a few errands, so covered it with a plastic bag.

When I got back to it, black spots had started to grow just under the surface.
Is there something I can add to the water to stop this?
