Some good info has already been posted,however a little mid-information as well. I am a dentist and a piercer as well. Most dental Handpieces actually do require oiling but we have machines that clean,lubricate (with oil spray), then purge the excess oil before sterilizing them. There are Handpieces that have ceramic bearings, like the NSK, which requires no oil. I use the kind that needs oil, but have no problems with oil on my work. Just run the Handpiece a little to ensure the excess oil is expelled. Use a light touch, as mentioned as they are not meant for heavy lifting. The bearings do eventually go, but can be replaced fairly easily. A new turbine costs about 125-175$.
