We seldom get freezing weather here in the Willamette Valley (western Oregon), but the trees are in early sprouting here as well. Sweet gum down the street had buds on it 2 weeks ago. The migratory turkey vultures are back a few weeks early, and I saw 1,000 plus swans also, which are a bit early. Certain changes in the weather let the trees know when to wake up. I haven't seen the swallows yet, but some birders have said they are here. An old farmer told me when they show up, there will be no more frost.
