>I've been reading an interesting book about the history of the Kentucky river that meanders through central KY from its start in eastern KY. Log rafts up to 80 feet long were once floated down to the mills during the spring floods which the locals refered to as _____ not as floods. Not much of a wood related question I know...hmmm.... Why were most of the logs in the rafts poplar and basswood when oak, walnut and hickory were just as abundant?
