What is the difference between a casket and a coffin?

What religion requires a coffin be made of plain wood, joined with wooden pegs with no metal parts or adornments?

Many caskets are made of nice hardwoods. However, many are made of pine for a reason. Why?

Some coffins today are even made of cardboard. Aside from cost savings, why would cardboard be a desired material?
