You advocated drilling out the center with what seems to me to be a small hole, claiming this relief would prevent splitting. Lacking more details I remain skeptical.

This 20" diameter pine disk opened 1.5" upon drying. Would a 1" hole in the center prevented this crack? (Disk is from a cross cut saw competition. Less than 7 seconds to slice it off!)

It seems that the success of this technique depends on the radial to tangential shrinkage of the species as well as the size of the disk. Or maybe not? Will you be more specific as to the details where this approach worked?
