Two things Elliot....

When you cut the box apart, you can cut the inner cut and then cut the outer rabbet wider, so the lid does not close all the way down on the outside, leaving a 1/16 or 3/32" groove, "celebrating" the separation. This gives you the opportunity to clean up the edges and they don't have to be absolutely perfect to look right. Also, if you line up the inner and outer cut, you can leave a very thin connection between the top and bottom and make the actual separation with a knife. Sand the edges a tiny amount and Bob's your uncle.

And, You need to find some wood with dramatic horizontal grain to show off your technique of re-sawing to get the continuous grain match all the way around. No one but a fellow wood worker would even notice it on the nice bland maple.
