Oh, I know how to make it by hand but that is exactly what I aim to avoid. The original lattice certainly seems to be a very dense rigid plastic and I'm afraid that any substitute machined out of standard sheetgoods would be far weaker and in my tentative application a bit of strength would be called for. I guess I could fall back on making a geometric lattice from standard hardwoods -- something like a traditional shoji but I really liked the random nature of the material I saw.
