Subject:
FDA says no to widespread boost

David Weaver
..I understand the groups better now, I think. FDA took Pfizer's plan and had the chance to say yes or no (but to the actual Pfizer plan, which was to freely offer the boost to everyone - age 16+).

What I didn't read was what the FDA's obligation was - and from a summary article today, their obligation was to see if Pfizer made a case for the need for the vaccine, not that pfizer could just prove that it would have some effect or be safe. Pfizer didn't clearly demonstrate a need for their particular plan.

If you are older, all is not lost - the CDC will determine in the near future who gets the booster above and beyond the at-risk group already receiving it (a betting man would suspect they would offer it for the j&j and pfizer vax for older individuals - but they could defer, too).

Some of you guys may be upset with me, but I am pleased, because this shows the government at work being deliberate and appropriate - they're solving the problem rather than just spraying adjacent properties with a big hose. And the people who benefit from a booster will still be determined to be eligible at some point (all the while, we as a country can continue to collect data to see if effectiveness is waning).
