We use a lot of that stuff at work

Its called braided wire loom, or sometimes snakeskin loom.

I've not done any price comparing, but usually outfits selling a common bulk product for a specific application are marking it up, so bargain hunters should be looking at electronic and wiring suppliers rather than vacuum hose oriented vendors.

At work we get it from McMaster-Carr, but I'm sure there are cheaper sources than them. I've also used a rodent resistant version, it's brown in color and the plastic is supposedly infused with capsaicin to discourage chewing. We've actually had rodents chew through optical fiber bundles. My preference would have been to sheath with stainless braided loom, but I don't do the budgets!
