Henry, your finish is very similar to my preferred finish - 2 coats of 2# shellac, rub down with white 3M pad, 2 coats Target EM6000 gloss, then if any sanding is required, do a quick sand at 400 grit (usually I don't need to do any sanding unless the grain got raised with the first coat of Target), and then finish with 2 coats of Target EM6000 satin.

I really like the satin finish - it looks good but hides any flaws that tend to show if you use gloss. Try it some day.
