When I first got out of college I was hired as an assistant supervisor for a commercial contractor. Much of my work involved laying out walls and other things on slabs and forms. We used red lead powder in string line chalk boxes instead of red chalk. The lead would stayed in place resisting rain and wear. Spent days with my hands coated in read lead powder. Wonder what the health consequences were?

I live in red clay country. Is it true that it's iron oxide that makes clay red?
