I run mine on an old Craftsman 20 (?) gallon compressor, probably 6 cfm. I spray pieces of furniture. I have never thought it was starved for air.

OTOH, All the videos I have found on it are definitely aimed at auto body work. I am still learning to avoid over spray, but with lacquer the gun can be dialed way down.

I have run it on a pancake compressor but I think somewhat bigger would be better.
