I like Bruce's point that he goes to see "designs that would never have occurred to me." I do that too. Its important though, to take the time to analyze your view - What is it that I like about this piece and why? Could something like this be incorporated into the stuff I make? Make some sketches when you get home and next time you are in design mode, take a look at them.

Two ideas that have guided me are 1)Michael Fortune's 'A piece should have no more than three major design elements, or they will compete' and a teacher of mine who once asked "Why would you want to make something that someone else has already done?".
