Shiplap back question.

Lee
Back is shiplaped Ash, pieces are 4 and 5 inches wide.
I have already finished the pieces with a water based polyurethane.
Wanted to put a little blob of glue on the centre of the board at the top and bottom, brad nail in and let dry.
This should still allow the pieces to expand and contract.
I will then pre-drill and add a nail later.
Wanted to do it this way so my gaps are nice and even. Didn’t trust myself to hold the board nice and still while I pre-drilled for the nail.
I want the gaps to be perfect from the inside of the cabinet.
What glue will be best for water based polyurethane to bare wood connection?
Lee
