Hmm... Dust from a disk could be a big problem for the lungs and a nuisance in the shop but I can't imagine it being a problem for lathe bearings. If so, there would be a lot of wrecked bearings since some people make clouds of dust with power sanding at the lathe and some don't use use any dust collection.

With over a 1/2 century history of asthma, I wear a respirator when making any kind of dust. I like this type:

Inexpensive, comfortable (I think), and excellent filtration without restricting air flow. I keep several sizes in the shop for visitors.
