I wouldn't put too much effort into wildy exotic woods & elaborate detail for a small kid bed. Kids are tough on furniture. Consider that at some point, it'll be drawn on with crayons & markers, covered with stickers, and hammered upon with another toy. A bed design that would appeal to a 2 year old will most likely be shunned by a 15 year old. You can still build a quality piece of furniture, but consider it'll probably have a rough life for the next 10-15 years.
