Planing 1000 bf of oak is a lot of work. It will be real aggravating work with a lightweight planer. I say go for the Grizzly.

Another option is to look for used. I had my eye on a 20" Planer when I found a used Powermatic 180 for less. I've never regretted getting it. It sounds like you've got some time to find a good deal since you already have another planing option.

A Shellix head would be nice, if you can afford it and if it's worth it to you, but plenty of people, including myself, get by just fine with straight knives.
